Alex Barkas, Ph.D.
Dr. Barkas joined our board of directors in 2007. Dr. Barkas is a Managing Director of Prospect Venture Partners, a venture capital firm. Prior to co-founding Prospect Venture Partners I, II and III, he was a partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers from 1991 to 1997, where he focused on healthcare product company investments. Prior to Kleiner Perkins, Dr. Barkas was a founder and CEO of BioBridge Associates, a health care industry consulting firm.

Dr. Barkas is currently Chairman of the Board of Geron Corporation and Tercica, Inc., and serves on the board of directors of Amicus Therapeutics, Inc. and several private life science companies.

Dr. Barkas received a Ph.D. in biology from New York University and a B.A. in Biology from Brandeis University, where he currently is Chairman of the University Science Advisory Council and serves on the Board of Trustees.

Nathan Hukill
Mr. Hukill is a Portfolio Manager at Highland Capital Management, L.P., covering the Healthcare sector. He currently serves on the board of directors of Solstice Neurosciences, Inc. and Epocal, Inc.

Prior to joining Highland in June 2005, Mr. Hukill worked as an investment professional at Centennial Ventures in Denver, Colorado, where he focused on investments in telecommunications and technology. Prior to Centennial, Mr. Hukill was an investment banking analyst in Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette’s Structured Products Group and a financial analyst in Salomon Smith Barney’s Global Loans Portfolio Group. Mr. Hukill focused on managing a portfolio of senior debt and private equity investments as well as structuring off-balance sheet transactions for Fortune 200 clients. He is an MBA graduate of the Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia and holds a BS in Business Administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude.

Drew Senyei
Drew is a managing director at Enterprise Partners Venture Capital where he leads the life science practice. Drew focuses on investments in pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals, diagnostics, medical devices and consumer healthcare. Drew has served on over 25 public and private boards including Adeza Biomedical, NuVasive, Corixa Corp., Ligand Pharmaceuticals, Nanogen, Inc., and Discovery Partners. He currently sits on the boards of Enterprise portfolio companies including: Ascenta Therapeutics, Celladon, Complete Genomics, Genoptix, Ophthonix, and TargeGen. He also serves on the board of Adeza Biomedical (ADZA).

Prior to joining Enterprise Partners in 1987, Drew was a physician and entrepreneur. While still a medical student at Northwestern University, he developed a drug delivery device and licensed it to Eli Lilly. Subsequently Drew joined Lilly as a consultant while completing his internship at the University of California Irvine.

Drew holds a B.S. from Occidental College and an M.D. from Northwestern University. Drew completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of California, Irvine, and holds 20 patents in healthcare related products and services including the first and only biochemical test that predicts preterm delivery. The test is available worldwide and has been used by over a million women.

Drew focuses his philanthropic efforts in education and the arts. He founded Equity in Education at The Bishops School to encourage entrepreneurs to donate stock for educational programs. He is a member of Northwestern University’s board of trustees, he is chairman of the board of UCSD’s Jacobs School of Engineering and is a member of the board of advisors for UCSD’s School of Medicine. Drew is on San Diego’s BIOCOM board of directors and also serves as president of the San Diego Opera. In January 2006, Drew was named one of the Top 100 VC’s in Forbes Magazine’s 2006 Annual Midas List.

Charles P. Waite, Jr.
Chad is a managing director at OVP Venture Partners with more than 25 years of experience in both the management and investment sides of emerging growth companies. He focuses on investments in the digital biology, and network security sectors. His venture investments include 4thpass, Accelerator, Airgo Networks, Altus, Boston Beer, Cardima, CellPro, CODA Genomics, Complete Genomics, Corixa, Serengeti, Etera, Filenet, GenoLogics, GreaterGood.com, Loudeye Technologies, NanoString, Plectix BioSystems, ProTools, Quantum Medical, Raytel Medical, Returns Online, Rosetta Inpharmatics, SafeHarbor, Saros, Seattle Genetics, SignalSoft, Syntellect, Verity and WatchGuard. He currently serves on the board of directors of Accelerator, Altus, CODA Genomics, Complete Genomics, GenoLogics, NanoString, Plectix BioSystems, and SafeHarbor.

Prior to joining OVP in 1987, Chad was a General Partner at Hambrecht & Quist Venture Partners. Prior to that, he was in marketing and sales management at Cobe Laboratories, Inc. in its cardiovascular medical products division.

Chad received his BA in History from Kenyon College and his MBA from Harvard Business School. He is a board member of the NVCA and the Washington Technology Alliance. He is also a Trustee at Kenyon College, a member of the Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) BSIF Advisory Board and a member of the University of Washington’s Technology Transfer Advisory Board.
