Clifford A. Reid, Ph.D., is our co-founder and has served as our President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman since July 2005 and as a member of our board of directors since July 2005. From March 2003 to September 2005, Dr. Reid was Vice President of Collaborative Solutions at Open Text Corporation, a software company. In 1995, Dr. Reid co-founded Eloquent, Inc., a digital video communications company, and served as its Chief Executive Officer until 1999 and as its Chairman until 2003, when it was acquired by Open Text. In 1988, Dr. Reid co-founded Verity, Inc., an enterprise text search engine company, and served as its Vice President of Engineering from 1988 to 1992 and as its Executive Vice President from 1992 to 1993. Dr. Reid received a B.S. in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an M.B.A. from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University.
Radoje T. Drmanac, Ph.D., is our co-founder and has served as our Chief Scientific Officer since July 2005. In 2001, Dr. Drmanac co-founded Callida Genomics, Inc., a DNA sequencing company, and served as Callida’s Chief Scientific Officer from 2001 to 2004 and has served as its President since 2004. In 1994, Dr. Drmanac co-founded Hyseq, Inc., a DNA array technology company that became Hyseq Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and later merged with Variagenics, Inc. to become Nuvelo, Inc., and served as its Senior Vice President of Research from 1994 to 1998 and as its Chief Scientific Officer from 1998 to 2001. Prior to that, Dr. Drmanac served as a group leader at Argonne National Laboratory. Dr. Drmanac received a B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Belgrade.
Deborah Neff joined Complete Genomics in February 2014 and is our Chief Operating Officer. Ms. Neff is a veteran of the life sciences industry, with over 25 years experience in building market-leading global businesses that were based on innovation and successful product commercialization. From 2006 to 2012 Ms. Neff served as President and CEO of Pathwork Diagnostics. Prior to that she was President and CEO of Predicant Biosciences, Inc. and Worldwide President of BD Biosciences, Inc., a business unit of Becton Dickinson. Ms. Neff has a BS in Physiology from UC Davis.
Ethan Knowlden joined Complete Genomics in July 2013 as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary. From 2000 to 2012, Mr. Knowlden served in various capacities at Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics, Inc. and its predecessor, Chiron Corporation, most recently as their Vice President of Business Development and Licensing and Corporate Counsel. His experience includes seven years in private practice as a corporate and securities specialist with Hughes & Luce L.L.P. (now K&L Gates) and Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP, both Dallas-based law firms. Mr. Knowlden began his career as a Financial Analyst in the New York office of The First Boston Corporation (now Credit Suisse). Mr. Knowlden received his B.A. in Art and Economics from Wesleyan University and his J.D. from the University of Virginia.
Sharon Hughes joined Complete Genomics in May 2013 as Vice President, Human Resources. From 2000 to 2013, Ms. Hughes served in various HR capacities at Johnson & Johnson, most recently as their Head of HR for Janssen Alzheimer Immunotherapy R&D LLC and prior to that as HR Director at LifeScan, Inc. Her experience includes eighteen years across the biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device and diagnostics, and semiconductor industries. Ms. Hughes received her B.S. in Business from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, a postgraduate degree in Human Resource Management from Manchester Metropolitan University in the U.K., and a M.B.A. from San Jose State University.
