Description

Complete Genomics is currently looking for a seasoned Director of Production IT, with a proven track record for success, who is able to think big picture and yet is a technical mentor to their team. This is an opportunity to lead a very talented and technical team.  This role is responsible for all IT Production resources including large on-premises and cloud infrastructure deployments (e.g. hundreds of compute nodes, multi-PB Storage and a highly complex network).

Responsibilities

• Deliver robust, reliable, scalable and cost effective infrastructure to support Complete Genomics Human Genome Sequencing Operations
• Develop strong working relationships and partnerships with the business that are aligned with our Corporate Goals
• Develop effective, efficient, and rigorous processes and methodologies which include monitoring and reporting
• Develop and Implement system and organizational roadmaps that ensure business and service continuity of the Production IT Infrastructure
• Manage a talented and technical team of System/IT Engineers. Set a high bar for recruiting and team deliverables
• Be proactive. We are supporting a mission critical environment built for scale. You have to be one step ahead in monitoring, capacity planning, identifying risks and bottlenecks
• Collaborate with the Engineering and Operations teams to contribute to the continuous improvement of the IT Infrastructure 

Qualifications

• A minimum of 10 years managing small to medium Operations and IT teams with a demonstrated track record of delivering high quality and reliable Infrastructure
• Excellent partnering and collaboration skills
• Experience leading/managing mission critical, 24x7 internal or external customer facing services – including platforms, services/middleware and applications
• Experience leading/managing high throughput, scale-out computing environments, including both on-premise and cloud infrastructure.  Ideally would have experience deploying virtualized infra at scale (aka “cloud”), and utilizing third-party IaaS vendors (e.g.  AWS)
• Experience leading/managing deployment (at scale) of Software created in house.   Experience partnering with in-house Software development teams for both internal and external customers.   DevOps.
• Significant experience with planning and execution of server virtualization, and Disaster recovery
• Strong and proven vendor management and negotiation skills
• Experience with implementing and operating within ISO 27001 and 27002 compliance is a plus
• Strong organizational, people management and communication skills
• Flexibility and passion to thrive in a fast-paced, informal startup environment
• Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related field.

Responsibilities: 

• Linux system administration (CentOS, Red Hat)
• Manage several hundred production servers and multiple petabytes of data, with a team of talented IT Ops team and developers
• Assist in scaling and continually improving our infrastructure
• Support and advise internal customers
• Share on-call responsibilities

Qualifications:

• Linux/Unix Administration experience in a production environment
• Demonstrated ability to support custom applications and advise developers with sound IT operations judgment.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills
• Strong knowledge of Linux operating system, including file systems, RAID, security, daemons, package management, networking and performance.
• Experience supporting infrastructure services, such as DNS, DHCP, LDAP, NFS, postfix, ntp, PXE, Kickstart and monitoring (Nagios, Cacti, Ganglia)
• Solid scripting skills (bash, perl, or python) combined with an enthusiasm for automation
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Proven team work skills as well as the ability to work individually
• Eagerness to learn, pick-up new technologies, and wear multiple hats
• Excellent communication and internal customer support skills

Experiences in these areas are a plus:

• Linux cluster (HPC) administration
• Isilon storage systems
• Web infrastructure (Java, tomcat, apache) administration
• Distributed shells and configuration management tool (Puppet)
• Scale-out NAS (Isilon), HSMs, and multi-terabyte direct-attached storage systems.
• Managing repositories (CentOS, CPAN, EPEL) and packaging RPMs
• Developer tools: Bugzilla, Perforce, Rally
• Python programming
• A four-year degree, preferably in computer science or a related engineering field, or equivalent experience

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and implement solutions to network issues
• Develop new networking designs to enhance existing network and new build outs
• Maintain monitoring systems
• Develop and support processes and documentation
• Perform network configuration changes across a multivendor, multiprotocol environment
• Automate whenever possible tasks which are repeated
• Serve as backup for Unix administrators

Qualifications

• 5 years’ experience with routing, switching, and load balancing in production environments
• Experience with OSPF, BGP
• Experience with Spanning Tree and Layer 2 topologies
• Experience with firewall configurations and VPN technologies
• Good knowledge of TCP/IP and protocol analysis
• Experience with Cisco IOS and Juniper JunOS
• Good knowledge of monitoring tools and network monitoring
• Good knowledge of Linux as a system administrator
• Basic scripting skills (PERL, Python)
• Experience with DNS, SMTP, DHCP, NFS and other core Unix services.
• CCNP or comparable certifications are desired but not required
• Comfortable working in a large production clustered environment
